Large truck accident statistics

Nebraska drivers have most likely seen large trucks driving on the highway. For the most part, the trucks and their drivers get to their destinations safely. However, there were 3,912 people killed and 104,000 people injured in accidents involving such vehicles in 2012. This represents a 4 percent increase in fatalities since 2011 and an 18 percent increase in injuries since 2011.

Feds reduce daily paperwork load for U.S. truckers

In a development that could mean safer roads for Nebraska drivers, the federal government recently enacted a plan to cut bureaucratic red tape in the trucking industry, which will purportedly eliminate a key paperwork requirement for truck drivers. Effective Dec. 18, truck drivers are no longer required to submit pre- and post-trip vehicle inspection reports when vehicle inspections find no violations, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Preventing some common motor vehicle accident injuries

Many people in Nebraska suffer serious personal injuries as a result of being involved in car accidents every year. While some accidents are unavoidable, people can take preventative measures to lessen their likelihood of sustaining the most common types of injuries that can occur in an accident.

Preventing accidents in Nebraska

An estimated 2,300 people are killed each year in accidents involving signalized intersections. Additionally, 700 people per year are killed in accidents involving drivers who ran or otherwise ignored a red light. Due to the risks involved with signalized intersections, it may be worthwhile to install roundabouts, which act to create low speed environments for drivers.

Accident avoidance technologies

New car manufacturers have several new technologies available that assist drivers with avoiding accidents by speeding up their reaction times. However, Nebraska residents may be surprised to learn that these technologies are typically only available as additional options for purchase in addition to the vehicle's standard package.

When to seek help after a car accident

Nearly everyone in Nebraska has been involved in a minor car accident or knows someone who has. In fender-benders or other accidents with little to no damage, it's often enough to exchange insurance information and settle damages quickly. Unfortunately, not all car accidents are minor, and the damages that result can be catastrophic in more than one way.
