Car accidents and shoulder fractures

Every year in Nebraska, people are seriously injured in car accidents, often through the negligence of another driver. When those accidents are high-speed collisions, the risk of sustaining a painful shoulder fracture that requires immobilization and physical therapy increases.

Shoulder fractures involve the scapula, clavicle or joint. A scapular fracture can often result from a high-speed collision, as the scapula is fairly well protected. The scapula is the bone on the backside of the shoulder. Some accidents also involve clavicle fractures, which is the bone at the front of the shoulder, and dislocations of the joint as well.

Accidents causing scapular fractures normally also involve chest injuries. The treatment may involve surgery in around 10 to 20 percent of the cases, although most will require immobilization and physical therapy. The recovery time may involve many months, and the person who is injured may suffer from a loss of range of motion in the affected shoulder. Consequently, the victim may need regular physical therapy during a rehabilitation period following medical intervention for the fracture.

People who are injured in car accidents caused by the negligent driving of another may be left with significant and ongoing medical expenses. They may also lose time from work and suffer from other attendant problems, such as rehabilitation costs and various other losses. By filing a personal injury civil lawsuit against the negligent driver who caused the accident, an injured person may be able to maximize the recovery ofdamages sufficient to make him or her whole. A personal injury attorney can review the relevant reports and facts and identify all potential defendants and claims prior to filing the lawsuit.
