On the evening of March 29 a fatal car accident occurred in Omaha, Nebraska. Three vehicles collided at the intersection of Maple Street and North 75th, leading to the death of a 63-year-old woman and the incarceration of one of the drivers.
According to the official reconstruction of the events, three separate vehicles were involved in the accident, but one of the vehicles immediately left the scene. It was driven by a 35-year-old man, and he was said to have been seen fleeing by witnesses to the collision. They followed the man for several blocks, keeping him in view the whole time, and informed the police as to his whereabouts.
One woman in the accident died at the scene, and a 37-year-old woman was taken to the hospital for examination of the injuries to her leg. The male driver stated for reporters who were covering the story his contention that the incident was only an accident, but the police took him into custody and charged him with a variety of infractions and crimes relating to the collision. These included DUI, possession of controlled substances, motor vehicle homicide, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident that resulted in a death and willful reckless driving.
A victim of a car accident that was caused by the negligence of another driver may wish to consult with an attorney to determine what recourse may be available. A personal injury lawsuit can seek compensation for the economic losses that have been sustained. Such a lawsuit can be maintained regardless of whether any criminal charges have been filed against the responsible driver.
