Woman can proceed with lawsuit against city for car accident

On June 23, it was reported that a Nebraska woman who suffered a life-altering injury was given permission by the Nebraska Supreme Court to proceed with a lawsuit that she had previously filed against Adams County and the City of Hastings. he lawsuit, filed in 2011, was based on an accident that had occurred in 2009.

Drowsy driving and car accidents in Nebraska

A 2014 study by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety revealed that drowsy drivers were responsible for an estimated 21 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes. This number was up from 16.5 percent in a previous study that had been conducted in 2010. However, 96 percent of respondents surveyed by AAA believe that driving while drowsy is not acceptable. Those who study the issue believe that more education and public outreach can help drivers understand the consequences of driving while not fully awake.

Fatal speeding accidents statistics

Fatal car accidents in Nebraska are often caused by drivers who are traveling at unsafe speeds. In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that speeding contributed to 30 percent of the fatal car accidents that took place across the country in 2012. During that same year, 10,219 people were killed in car accidents that involved a driver who was speeding, an increase of 2 percent from the previous year.

Nebraska drivers and fatal car accidents across each state

Nebraska drivers may be interested in a study conducted by the Auto Insurance Center that examined the fatality rates of different road hazards across all 50 states. The data was taken from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Fatal Accident Reporting System from the period between 2009 and 2013. Once analyzed, the Auto Insurance Center explored the top five states with the fewest fatalities as well as the top five states with the most fatalities in each category.
