2 dead, 1 injured in Nebraska crash

On July 4, it was reported that two people were killed and a third person was injured in a head-on car crash in Nebraska. The accident reportedly occurred on State Highway 39 at about 1 a.m.

Authorities believed that a 24-year-old man was driving a passenger car when he entered a ditch on the side of the road. He reportedly attempted to correct the vehicle and ultimately crossed over the yellow line into oncoming traffic. His vehicle collided head-on with a pickup truck that was being driven by a 40-year-old woman. Both the 24-year-old man and the 40-year-old woman did not survive. A young girl was also in the pickup truck at the time the accident took place and was transported to a hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.

Any car accident can cause serious injuries that can leave lasting damages that will affect the injured individuals for the rest of their lives. Long-term care and treatment combined with the potential inability to work can cause financial woes for the injured person.

If the accident was caused by another driver, a personal injury attorney could potentially help the victim seek compensation for both economic and noneconomic losses. Depending on the case, damages sought could include the cost of past and future medical care and rehabilitation as well as pain and suffering. If a person was killed in the accident, surviving family members may be entitled to file a wrongful death action that would seek funeral and burial expenses, loss of companionship and support, and other applicable damages permitted by statute.
