Avoiding motorcycle accidents in Nebraska

Whether a rider has just learned how to operate a motorcycle or has been riding for years, erratic or unsafe driving may increase the odds of an accident. However, riders who take the time to educate themselves about the dangers of being on a motorcycle may reduce their risk of being involved in a crash. Understanding how to evaluate road conditions and knowing how to be observant can help avoid common scenarios.

One common crash scenario involves cars turning into the path of an oncoming motorcycle. Riders can avoid a crash by scanning the road and finding an escape route before it is necessary to do so. Depending on road and traffic conditions, evasive action may be possible without the need to slam on the brakes or lay the bike down on the ground.

Maintaining a reasonable speed can help avoid crashing in tight corners or on changing road conditions. Those who go too fast for the road conditions may not be able to adjust for a suddenly tight corner or a patch of uneven gravel. For those who are inexperienced on a bike, slowing down may make it easier to spot landmarks or other signs that a tight corner may be up ahead or make it easier to ride through the corner without losing control.

Those who are involved in motorcycle accidents may experience broken bones, lacerations and other injuries that could take many weeks, months or years to fully heal. In the event that the accident was caused by the negligence of another motorist, a personal injury attorney may find it advisable to file a lawsuit against the at-fault driver seeking compensation for medical expenses and other applicable losses.
