Holidays high on the list of large number of car wrecks

Not surprisingly, two factors that contribute significantly to the volume of motor vehicle accidents in Nebraska and other states are high traffic volume and the consumption of alcohol. On particular days of the year, these two factors combine to result in a higher number of traffic accidents than other days of the year.

Drinking, drowsiness, distraction all factors in car accidents

Nebraska drivers are likely aware that some of the most common causes of motor vehicle accidents include drowsy driving, reckless or distracted driving and drunk driving. In addition to these causes, a 2014 data analysis by the Associated Press found that a rise in heavy equipment being driven on the nation's roadways has significantly increased the number of motor vehicle accidents. Motor vehicle accidents are the main cause of injury throughout the country, and in 2012, these accidents resulted in almost 7,000 people per day being taken to emergency rooms and more than 33,000 deaths.

Even brief inattention can dangerously distract drivers

Nebraska drivers are likely aware that using a mobile electronic device while behind the wheel can be dangerous, but they may be surprised to learn that glancing at a cellphone's screen for mere seconds can increase their chances of being involved in a crash. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recommends that drivers take their eyes off the road for no more than two seconds to check a phone or GPS screen, but research by a leading insurance company indicates that looking away from the road even this briefly could increase the likelihood of an accident.

Driving safe during spring weather

Driving in Nebraska during the spring can be treacherous when drivers are not prepared for wet weather conditions. According to AAA, 1.2 million car accidents take place each year in the United States as a result of wet weather. To avoid accidents, drivers should make sure that their vehicles are ready to withstand heavy rains by checking tire tread and maintaining safe driving habits.

Multi-car accident results in a fatality

On the evening of March 29 a fatal car accident occurred in Omaha, Nebraska. Three vehicles collided at the intersection of Maple Street and North 75th, leading to the death of a 63-year-old woman and the incarceration of one of the drivers.

Sternum fractures in car accident victims

Some car accident victims in Nebraska sustain an injury called a sternum fracture. Although this injury only affects about 5 to 8 percent of people who experience chest trauma, sternum fractures can be extremely dangerous. Because the sternum is part of the rib cage circle that protects the heart and lungs, a sternum fracture could result in life-threatening injuries to these vital organs.

Nebraska teens engage in risky multitasking while driving

Nebraska residents can take solace in the fact that awareness campaigns aimed at informing teens of the dangers of texting while driving are producing results. However, evidence suggests parents and authority figures need to do more to ensure that the teens in their care understand how important it is to keep their eyes on the road at all times.

Distracted driving statistics show significance of U.S. problem

Nebraska readers might be interested in some distracted driving statistics that have been highlighted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. On an average day in the U.S., for example, nine people are killed and more than 1,150 injured in car accidents involving a distracted driver, according to a report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Car accident spinal injuries

Many Nebraska drivers have suffered injuries as the result of a car accident. Of these injuries, injuries to the spine are among the most serious. The spine plays a critical role in physical movement and overall health. A car accident that causes serious injury to the spine can have long-lasting effects that drastically alter the course of a person's life.

Car accidents and shoulder fractures

Every year in Nebraska, people are seriously injured in car accidents, often through the negligence of another driver. When those accidents are high-speed collisions, the risk of sustaining a painful shoulder fracture that requires immobilization and physical therapy increases.

I knew we were in good hands from the first meeting and you have exceeded all my expectations! It may feel straightforward to you, but to us, you have moved mountains. This settlement will allow my parents, particularly my Dad, to enjoy the rest of their lives to the fullest of their abilities. We all agree that we would give every cent back and more for my Dad to walk again, but that is not going to happen... - DW

  • "...He didn't treat me like I was one of 100 clients. He treated me like I was his only client. He acted professionally but with empathy, dignity and friendliness. It didn't matter if it was something small or large, he was always there for me, be it by phone, fax, email, cellphone or meeting me personally at his office or elsewhere. He never rushed me when I didn't understand something, he'd take as much time as needed to explain things to me, especially when it came time for my deposition and in preparation for trial. He was there for me when I truly needed his help..." - CG

  • "...My husband and I felt his kindness immediately and were both very impressed with his knowledge of what to expect in a wrongful death case. He pursued our claim in an aggressive manner while at the same time being very protective of our rights and privacy and sheltered us from any unnecessary contact with insurance agents, or any other adverse parties. My husband and I cannot say enough about the kindness, professionalism and legal ability demonstrated by Atwood, Holsten, Brown, Deaver & Spier Law Firm, P.C., L.L.O." - RD

  • "...If it were not for this law firm all I would have received from this injury would have been a loss of income check and a pat on the back, goodbye. Which only would have been a fraction of what I actually received. He was always professional but more importantly he cared about me and my family as people not just a client. He went beyond his role as my lawyer. He even spoke with my bank and explained why I was behind on my car payment. And this saved me getting my car repossessed..." - HR
